Prognostic importance of anaemia in patients with acute pulmonary embolism

Donzé J, Labarère J, Méan M et al.
The presence of anemia is associated with adverse outcomes in a number of cardiopulmonary conditions, such as myocardial infarction and heart failure. However, it is not known whether anemia is of prognostic value in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). The authors investigated the associations between anemia and adverse outcomes in patients with acute PE, and found that anemia is associated with an increased risk of short-term mortality and length of stay in hospital.
