The Treatment of Colorectal Liver Metastases

B Topal

Colon and rectal cancers account for approximately 9% of total cancer cases worldwide, which is equivalent to approximately 1 million new cases each year [1]. One-quarter of patients with colorectal cancer have liver metastases at clinical presentation, and another third of patients develop metastases during the course of their disease [2]. Up to 30% of patients with advanced colorectal cancer have liver-only metastases, while approximately 50% of recurrences that occur after resection of the primary colorectal cancer are confined to the liver [3].
