Clinical and dermoscopic characteristics of new naevi in adults: results from a cohort study.

Oliveria SA, Yagerman SE, Jaimes N et al.
Previous studies have shown that the formation of new nevi starts during the early years of life and increases during adolescence and early adulthood, resulting in a maximum nevus count by approximately 40 years of age. It has been suggested that, later in life, development of new nevi diminishes and existing nevi begin to involute.
