Emma Wedgeworth’s review: There has been considerable interest in the role of probiotics in preventing allergic disease. The results of a Cochrane review in 2007 suggested that there was some evidence for a beneficial effect of the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus on eczema prevention (Cochrane Database Syst Rev 2007;17:CD006475).
