Jürgen Schauber’s review: Proteins of the high mobility group (HMG) are involved in the packaging of DNA in the nucleus. When cells undergo necrosis – for example, as a consequence of tissue trauma – HMG proteins are released, and some HMG proteins serve as signals to induce an inflammatory response.
