Development and characterization of clinically relevant tumor models from patients with renal cell carcinoma

Karam JA, Zhang XY, Tamboli P et al.
Editor’s note: Mouse models of human cancers underpin many of the significant advances that have been made in our understanding of tumor biology and, therefore, the identification of better diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Such models allow researchers to pose and seek answers to questions that otherwise could not be addressed. Developing models that resemble the genotype and phenotype of the original tumor as closely as possible is highly desirable. This is essential if meaningful insights are to be gained that can be translated back into the clinic.
