Stroke and dementia are recognized as major public health problems in the elderly and are commonly referred to as the diseases of the century. The two diseases are interrelated (stroke may lead to dementia, and dementia increases the risk of stroke) and share common risk factors, but the extent and pattern of this relationship is not clear
