Inflammation in right ventricular dysfunction due to thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

von Haehling S, von Bardeleben RS, Kramm T et al.
The role of inflammation in various forms of pulmonary arterial hypertension is an area of intense research. These authors have asked, but not answered, a serious question: what role does inflammation play in the setting of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH)? Unfortunately, although many patients were operated upon in their study, the opportunity this presented for evaluating tissue samples from both the heart and lungs was not taken.
