Vitamin D and Asthma

Asthma and related allergic diseases are substantial public health problems worldwide [1,2]. Asthma remains the most common chronic disease of childhood [2,3], and is responsible for significant healthcare costs (US19.7 billion annually in the US) [4]. Its prevalence is highest in Western, industrialized countries [1]. Recently, it has been proposed that vitamin D deficiency may explain part of this pattern [5].
