Sarah Smith’s review: This interesting and well-grounded study was performed to investigate the association between obesity and cardiac changes in dogs, a subject frequently thought to be insignificant in the species despite the well-publicised health-related effects of obesity in humans and the current prevalence of obesity in dogs. The effects of diet and exercise were not taken into account in this study, but the authors suggest that these are probably modifiable regulators of cardiac morphology, and that studies in this area may well be insightful.
