Data from ERAS (Early Rheumatoid Arthritis [RA] Study) presented in this article indicate that interstitial lung disease (ILD) is an important comorbidity in RA and that patients with RA-ILD have a poor prognosis.
A wide range of extra-articular manifestations complicate the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The third most common comorbidity in RA, interstitial lung disease (ILD), is a progressive fibrotic disease of the lung parenchyma that is associated with significant morbidity. However, data regarding the incidence, mortality, and predictive factors for ILD in RA are scarce. Therefore, the investigators of this study examined ILD incidence, outcome, and prognostic indicators in the ERAS (Early RA Study) inception cohort.
