Uveitis and retinal vasculitis associated with Behçet’s disease can be refractory to conventional treatment and lead to blindness. This group studied the use of interferon-α 2a in resistant disease, and demonstrated promising outcomes.


Behçet’s disease is prevalent in regions that lie along the historical Silk Road. One of the most troubling manifestations of this disease is recurrent uveitis, which can involve the anterior or posterior segments of the eye. Visual impairment – even blindness – can occur without successful therapy.
