Randomised controlled trial of prophylactic fluconazole versus nystatin for the prevention of fungal colonisation and invasive fungal infection in very low birth weight infants

Aydemir C, Oguz SS, Dizdar EA et al.
The authors present the results of the first prospective, randomized controlled trial evaluating antifungal prophylaxis with either fluconazole or nystatin versus placebo in very low birth weight infants. Both fluconazole and nystatin significantly reduced the incidence of fungal colonization and invasive infection compared with placebo.
